Should a school use an existing system or build its own software?
Most schools should start with a proven school management system rather than commissioning one from scratch. The core jobs — admissions, attendance, timetables, exams, report cards and fees — are similar across institutions, and a ready product such as Schooliee, which we built and maintain ourselves, can be configured and running far sooner and at lower cost than a custom build.
Custom development makes sense when your needs go beyond the standard: a chain of campuses with its own reporting structure, an academy selling courses online, integrations with a particular payment provider or government portal, or a learning experience that is part of your brand.
